Dichroic Cubes in the making!

I’ve been a bit lax, but this week I’m going to be back making the cubes!

I’ve moved. Well.. it was a couple of months ago, but it took a while to get my studio back up and ready for making the cubes for selling.

I’m surrounded by cubes at the moment, but they’re not of the quality where I’d sell them. I’m a perfectionist and I’d prefer to make the Inception cubes (1.2cm cubes of one colour embedded in 1.7cm cubes in another colour, alternated in rows).

Another problem is that I’m situated on the top of a hill and the weather has been nasty. These cubes are made in 5 layers, each taking 5 days to cure and if there’s a fluctuation in temperature things go ‘shimmery’ and spoil the result. Nights are a bitch.

This week sees the beginning of good weather. I have my art room set up, the pressure system sorted and things are looking up.

I’ve found that alternating the colours in the cubelets (i.e. blue/pink 1.2 cube in a green/pink 1.7cm cube and vice versa) and then alternating the colours in rows in the finished piece looks REALLY cool! So I’m doing that. I sold the two I made that way so I don’t have a picture to show you, but give me 30 days (that’s how long they take to make) I’ll have something to show you!

Watch this space, and let me know if you want one!
